Dr. John “Jack” Loeding, Sr., 85 years old, of Sugar Grove, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020.
Jack was born in Applegate Township, Michigan on July 16, 1935 to late Maynard Loeding and Leona (Hawkins) Loeding of Michigan. He graduated valedictorian from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1959 and pursued a career as an Osteopathic surgeon for 55 years. During his career as a surgeon, Jack had the privilege of saving Oscar, an injured bald eagle in Ironwood, Michigan on June 18, 1970. Upper Peninsula’s Iron County DNR discovered Oscar limping across Highway US-2 and reached out to Dr. Loeding for medical assistance. Oscar had an inch-deep hole under the muscle of his left wing and another on his right wing that Dr. Loeding was able to clean and suture close; thus, saving Oscar’s life.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 50 years, Mary Ann Vess Loeding, RN, to whom he married on April 30, 1966.
Jack is survived by his son, John R. Loeding, Jr. and fiancé, Heather Shively of Canton, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Amy Loeding of Billings, Montana; and son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Jessica Loeding of Waleska, Georgia; and five grandchildren: Luke, Jack, Olivia, Emma and Abigail.
